It is amazing how a need that was perceived by three different people at three different points in time suddenly came to fruition . . .
Léa had an idea that kept simmering in the back of her mind for months. One day, while she was listening to a Shabbat service, she looked up and saw her friend Erika softly singing and gently swaying to the prayer that was being sung. Léa knew instinctively that Erika was the person to speak to in order to determine if her idea would flourish in the marketplace.
Léa and Erika started meeting at a local JavaU. They dissected, chewed out and kept massaging the idea until it was doable. One day, Jason came into the picture when Erika said to Léa, “You have to meet my friend Jason! He’s really smart and has wanted to start something similar to this.”
So, what’s Empowerment really about? Empowerment is a project that was started by three individuals with a heartfelt desire to connect people with special needs to those who have the knowledge and expertise to help them. Too many people experience frustration in making sense of the availability of services and products to help themselves with their disability, to help them manage the needs of a loved one with a disability or to help them guide their clients with disabilities. Empowerment is the equivalent of ‘Google’ in the special needs field . . . but with an added twist of screening so that our supporters, followers and friends receive the most updated information available on the market.
Empowerment will be expanding to other communication venues but this is how we are initially starting. We’ll keep you posted as to our progress but please let us know what you want and what you find works (or doesn’t work) for you, your loved ones or your clients.
